Sunao
writes... My husband, daughter, grandchild and I visited The Plains
of Abraham this summer. Just as tourists and not looking for or expecting
anything strange to happen. We walked through the gate into the Plains.
To my left the ground dipped to a small grassy area and just beyond
that was a long building with an arched doorway (Barracks).
I
was drawn to want to go down to the archway but the others were ahead
of me and I didn't go. Just a few seconds after entering the Plains,
I felt a presence. I paid attention and a young man in a red coat, black
hair and a gun pointing down was beside me. He pointed to the grassy
area and I saw a battle scene. However there was no movement and no
sound. It was like a picture. He seemed to be showing me the horrors
of war. Why are we still having wars, etc.? He continued to walk with
me. I asked him his name. He said "Montgomery". I had read
of a Montgomery, so I asked him to repeat it. He again said "Montgomery.
Philip Montgomery". I was not quite sure of the Philip though.
Thats what I thought it was. We strolled along and I asked what
it was he wanted me to see or understand (beyond what I'd seen already).
From here it wasn't as clear. I got the impression that he approved
of people laughing and enjoying themselves in the area BUT there was
something he didn't like. Not sure if it was commercialism, type of
music or what.
He
walked with me to another building but would not go in. He was a charismatic,
intelligent and honorable person. It was a very peaceful, pleasant experience.
If he were alive today I would like him for a friend. Oh, by the way...I
don't know the military insignia but I got the impression he was an
officer but not the high officer. Perhaps a Lieutenant, or Captain.
I'm
trying to find out what others have experienced in this area. I have
found that one person had an experience but as far as I can find it
was just the feeling of a presence in the same area (as you come in
the gate).

Some History
The
Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759, the British, under the command
of Major General James Wolfe, advanced into the St. Lawrence River and
on September 13th attacked the French, under the command of Lieutenant
General the marquis de Montcalm. Wolfe's troops scaled the cliffs below
the Plains of Abraham and attacked. The battle was short and the city
surrendered a few days later. Both Montcalm and Wolfe were mortally
wounded.
The
Plains of Abraham is a site of 107 hectares that was developed by the
National Battlefields Commission to commemorate the battles that were
fought in Quebec City in 1759, 1760 and 1775.
Story UPDATE!
Sunao
received this information from Peter, the Historian at the Canadian
War Museum. There was a Captain Alexander Montgomery of the 43rd Regiment
present at the siege of Quebec. You can read about him in C.P. Stacey,
Quebec, 1759: The Siege and the Battle. Toronto: Robin Brass Studio,
2002, p. 105.
Id
like to say that we think Sunao is doing a great job digging up information.
Please note the information given by the Museum on how to locate other
people from that time - by contacting The Canadian Genealogy Centre
at the Library and Archives Canada. I think this is useful information
and could help others find solutions to perhaps others they have spoken
to at that same site.
