We
have heard several stories from different people that were told the
Henry House is haunted. There would be faces appearing in the windows,
lights coming on in the middle of the night (without the use of timers),
curtains moving at 2am, laughter from inside the house, etc.
We
are asking anyone that has a story they would like to share about the
Henry House, to write us at paranormal_seekers@yahoo.com
SOME HISTORY
The
Henry House is located at the end of Simcoe Street in Lakeview Park,
and is known as The Oshawa Community Museum. The House is one of three
historical buildings located in the park, and the locals believe that
this one is haunted.
Thomas
Henry built the house in 1849. Mr. Henry was one of the founding members
of the Sydenham Harbor Company that ran the port of Oshawa. He was also
known as a traveling minister for the Church of Whitby, and said to
have owned an apple orchard. The Henry's were considered at that time,
to be a middle-class family. Thomas Henry was also a very well respected
gentleman in the area.
Joseph
Wood, a Harbor Master, originally intended the house to be a one-story
cottage, which turned in to a two story building after the Henrys
moved in. The main floor is made of Kingston Limestone and the second
floor is made of wood, which was added by Thomas Henry himself.
Tours
are offered of the house, which provide a glimpse into everyday pioneer
life. You can observe the kitchen, the parlor where Henry's wife kept
the best furniture and the finest china, and so much more!
