PAST ACTIVITY
The
There are many ghost stories associated with the Inn at the Falls. Most
of these occurrences occur primarily in the early morning, early evening
and late at night when guests have gone to bed. It is reported that
many guests are woken up in the late hours of the night with three knocks
of their doors, at which no one is there. Cigar smoke can be smelt in
the upstairs hall by Room 106 and down in the Parlour.
Room
105 is the Inn at the Falls famous 'haunted' room. Guests have felt
a presence as soon as they have entered the room. The feeling of being
watched from the foot of the bed is also a common sensation. Other ghostly
activity has been reported such as the television coming on by itself
and changing channels, the shower turning on and off by itself, and
missing keys to other rooms have mysteriously turned up either beneath
the covers or in the centre of the bed.
One
of the most famous ghost stories originating from the Inn at the Falls
is the story of the pregnant woman. It is said that she is heard walking
the halls on the second floor at night. This pregnant woman had fallen
down the stairs near the end of her pregnancy. As a result she and her
unborn baby had died. Many of the guests who have stayed at the Inn
have claimed to have heard a man and woman pacing the second floor hall
at night talking about a pregnancy. Some of these guests have continued
on to say that the woman is distressed and concerned about her health
with a baby crying.
The
Inn at the Falls also has three other ghosts that they enjoy. Giving
them the distinct names of "Bob", "Charlie", and
"Sarah". "Bob" makes himself known in the kitchen.
Even though he has never been seen, "Bob" has been known for
throwing pots and pans within the kitchen area. "Bob" has
also been the one linked to pushing irritable guests down the stairs
and for making a general fuss. "Charlie" is known to haunt
Room 104, and sometimes ventures into Room 105. "Sarah" is
said to haunt the dining room and lately "Sarah" has been
visiting the downstairs Pub area around dinner time. The Inn provided
us with a short story about "Sarah" which is posted at the
bottom.
As
for Jackie Niven, one of the previous owners who passed away in the
house, has appeared as a ghostly apparition in the downstairs Pub entrance
by the coffee maker.
Judge
William C. Mahaffy's spirit has been witnessed in the Pub and the corridor
near it. He quickly vanishes upon being seen.
The
following is a list of other paranormal occurrences that have been witnessed
at the Inn at the Falls.
- Feminine weeping is often heard on the second floor, which was then
accompanied by the desolate sound of shuffling footsteps around the
corridor near the top of the stairs.
- A woman has been seen sitting by the window looking down towards the
street. Witnesses say that she is a young woman, very beautiful, who
has long dark hair and wearing a long white gown. This young woman has
also been seen walking the halls, only to disappear into thin air.
- Guests of Room 105 have reported that upon waking up in the middle
of the night they have seen a woman walk from one side of the room to
the other, crossing towards the window. Once there she settles into
one of the wingback chairs and vanishes.
- Ashtrays have been known to fly off of tables.
- Clothes have flown out of closets.
- The sound of children laughing and giggling have been heard in the
main hall.
- A smaller woman has been seen. She appears to be in her 40's, wearing
blue jeans and a red/white checker shirt. She has dark shoulder length
hair and has been seen in the halls. **This could be Jackie Niven**
- An older man dressed in a grey pinstriped suit with black shoes and
a long black tailcoat has been seen.
- Another man has also been seen. He is well dressed and was seen walking
past the bar and then into the restroom where he disappeared.
